Judson Riviere's OMC pairs a Master-grade Swiss Moon spruce top with Madagascar rosewood back and sides — a tonewood combination he favors for its blend of headroom and harmonic complexity, and this instrument leans into every promise the pairing makes.
The voice is remarkably balanced across the register. The bass carries the "pump" often associated with the Somogyi lineage — present, pushing air, never overblown. The mids sit rock-steady beneath it, and the trebles are bright and warm at once, never brittle. The dynamic range is unusually wide — articulate at a whisper, composed when driven hard, with no compression or collapse at either extreme. What's most striking, though, is the sensitivity: small shifts in pick angle or dynamic weight all register in the tone.
The visual language is one continuous idea. Red burl runs through the headstock, the rosette, and the end-graft, tying the whole face together. Detail work is deep and quiet: a bespoke inlay tucked into the cutaway shoulder, double-layer brass-and-mother-of-pearl fret markers that catch the light at different angles, and even the tuner bushings on the headstock seated in recessed inlays. The bridge is Judson's newest pinless design — a clean, modern take on string anchoring that keeps the top uncluttered and quietly hints at his continuing pursuit of tonal efficiency.
